Island has magnetic appeal

Magnetic by name, magnetic by nature! Just a short, 25 minute ferry ride from Townsville you will arrive at picturesque Magnetic Island. Studded with large granite outcrops and palm fringed, sandy beaches this tropical paradise is waiting for you.

Local holiday makers love to make the most of their weekend and soak up the relaxed lifestyle Magnetic Island has to offer. Everyone leads busy lives and within easy reach you can escape for the day or weekend and chill out on Maggie, as it’s affectionately known by locals.

The tropical, warm waters mean that during the months from November to April you will need to wear a stinger suit when swimming outside of lifeguard patrolled stinger nets, located at Horseshoe and Picnic Bay. Stinger suits can be hired or purchased from various outlets on the island.

Take advantage of the many attractions on offer including jet skiing, paddle boarding, snorkelling and not to be missed bare-back horse riding in Horseshoe Bay’s turquoise waters - check out the video clip below!

Magnetic Island is a hidden gem, off the beaten tourist track. Stay for the day or check into Bungalow Bay Koala Village for the night so you can get up close and personal with Australia's cute, furry critters.

For the more adventurous you can explore the island on foot and take advantage of the spectacular, large granite boulders to take in some of the best views. There is the popular Forts Walk with stunning 360 degree views, if you keep your eyes open you might be lucky to spot a koala bear in the wild. Magnetic Island is also home to a large rock wallaby colony.
