Magnetic Island koala colony

Koala - Magnetic Island

Picturesque Magnetic Island features an abundance of unique flora and fauna. Along with a large rock wallaby colony, Magnetic Island is also home to Northern Australia’s largest koala colony.

Koalas are only found in the wild, in Australia and they live in and eat the leaves of eucalyptus trees.  The leaves have a high water content but are nutrient deficient causing the koala to sleep up to 20 hours a day!

If you are lucky enough to get up close and personal with one of Australia’s most iconic marsupials, be sure not to disturb them!
